The B.I.G. challenge is alone to show a closed list inside the cycloclimbing for life associations. CCC, OCD or UIC are based on unlimited lists. Why did we choose it and what are the arguments in favor of a closed list ? Do you have any idea about that ?
1) One member can become a finisher one day. It's hard and a long way, of course, but one member has a final goal.
2) The distribution of a closed list everywhere in Europe doesn't give an advantage to some members. Everybody has to travel a lot to catch all the bigs. If we gave priority to high alpine roads, the members living in those areas would have had a great advantage, travelling less.
3) The member can avoid the research of all the coordinates and informations about the climb to claim it. The datas are already before in the website. Claiming is much easy. And it avoids a lot of question linked undoubtly to unlimited lists : is this a good one to claim ? How can we catch one time the score of the members who started so many years before ? Where can we stop (example : Tourmalet or Pic du Midi ?) ?
4) A closed list is of course a choice, but the way by which we gave 5 principles and gave priority to 3 different criteria (media, tourism, sport) gives sense and atmosphere to your attempts. You know by cycling there, that other members suffered there too at the same place, or you can imagine the crowd shouting on the professional riders, even if you're alone on the road, or you can open your eyes to see the marvelous touristic jewel that we choose for you.
5) It authorizes some plan over the years and personal tactical ways to increase his (her) score, trying to catch the steepest one, being still young, and the more easy ones later.
6) It gives the ability to manage meetings in special places that everybody has one time to go to, if he wants to become a finisher.
7) During the evolution of each score, it adds apples and pears like the CCC, for example, but at the end, as a finisher, all the efforts, travels and energies used are quite similar.
8) The round number has a good representation in our brain. 1000 is a round number. To have 5678 passes or 1 578 965 meters D+ gives a less realistic image than to have 600 claims on 1000.
9) It authorizes precise and special steps during the evolution of the scores, giving all along the time a good feedback of his (her) own evolution in the ranking.
10) It pushes every member to share the other cycling ways of life. The interest of the cycloclimbers aren't always the same and we can read something about a climb before going there, that we never thought about if we haven't the same named list.
