I climbed it from the other side nearly the same day as you (14/10/2024). The S side has a longer gravel section (starts a little after Puerto Lobo) but doable with a road bike.

I did this climb from the SW-side. Except of the first 3 km (busy road, partly cycle-lane) it is a beautiful climb with views on Granada and good asfalt. At 500 m before the top (according to BIG-gpx) the road stops at a parking lot and with a sign (picture). The track continues on gravel to a point in the forest with no exact summit, probably to meet the other route from Puero Lobo.
