The climb from the east side is much shorter than from the South and contains some very steep parts. Looking at the energy points it is heavier than the Ventoux - and that is how it felt... There is a small bike rental in Telde where the climb starts (Accion Bikes) but their choice is limited. The only large size bike that fitted me had compact gears which made the steep parts extra tough. Another disadvantage of this side is that the top half is often in the clouds due the persistent northern winds. But it also makes it less hot. I was glad I took a jacket for the way down because it was really cold in the mist. The climb from the south starts in Maspalomas near all the big resorts where most tourist stay (fortunately not me...).. I did this side by car... Very beautiful landscape but the climb from this side also contains some downhill parts (one quite serious) which means signigantly more altimeters than the east side. But in general it is less steep.

The climb is much longer than shown in the description:
When you climb the route on the map, starting at the roundabout where the GC60 begins in Maspalomas, the climb is 45km, starting at less than 100m altitude. It is very nice though!
